Pallas

A Historic building

The building, now home to Pallas, is an integral part of Chania’s history. It was built in 1830 and was part of the Piazza Magazine neighbourhood.

Previously home of Ali Pasha and later a customs house, the building which has also functioned as a hotel and a café, is situated in one of the most beautiful parts of the old Venetian harbour.

Partial restoration works started in 1986. It took over 2 and a half years to restore the facades and some sections of the ground floor, but the full renovation didn’t happen until 2008 when it was taken over by the Pallas and Pallas Philocaly teams.

In 2013 Thealassa, the rooftop restaurant on the 1st floor terrace, also opened.  It’s the only roof terrace restaurant in the old Venetian Harbour that offers unique views of the lighthouse and breathtaking sunsets during the summer months. The Archeological department of Greece named it amongst the 20 most beautiful buildings in Crete. It is also an Archealogical listed building by UNESCO.

Pallas and Pallas Philocaly are open throughout the year everyday from 7:00am till late. PALLAS PHILOCALY

Pallas Philocaly is situated next to Pallas and is managed by the same team.

It opened its doors in the summer of 2021 after an extensive renovation of the 100 year old listed building housing it which is an archaeological treasure of Chania. The building was previously used as storage space over the years, but in its former glory days it was part of a bigger building that used to be an armoury.

Pallas Philocaly is now home to an open kitchen with a beautiful sitting space, a wine cellar and houses the bakery & pastry kitchen for both Pallas & Pallas Philocaly.

When visiting you get the chance to do a walk through the wine cellar and enjoy wine tasting with one of our Someliers. You also have the choice to purchase any of the wines to take away.

If you fancy something small or have a sweet tooth, you can enjoy our croissants and variety of pastries, as well as sweets and desserts made fresh every morning at Pallas Philocaly.
